Outcomes:

  • Develop manual skills in design ideation, preparation and production
  • Develop or augment digital design skills using industry-industry-stars software
  • Understand the uses and purpose of graphic, package and product design
  • Gain or harness ability to critique creative productions
  • Articulate design choices in textual and oral form with the use of discipline-specific vocabulary
  • Research, develop and produce a project that incorporates graphic, package and product design, for a brand invented by students

Objectives:

  • Conceptualize and articulate the use of design principles in established works of art and to apply these principles in the student’s own design production.
  • Describe, analyze, interpret and evaluate the use of design principles in the context of a group critique using relevant critical vocabulary.
  • Offer and accept critical feedback based on artistic criteria within the group critique process.
  • Contextualize one’s own artistic process and deployment of design art-historically.
  • Write a concise, coherent artist statement to articulate the function of design in the student’s own art production.
  • Apply artistic technique appropriate to mediums used within the course.
  • Learn practical design skills through current industry standard software.
